LEADERS IN THE ART OF WINEMAKING

25 years ago, eight independent winemakers established the Cape Winemakers Guild (CWG).  Their vision was to ensure that South African Winemakers would be ranked amongst the world’s best by international opinion leaders.

The mission of the members of the CWG is to develop an association of the best winemakers in South Africa for continuous improvement and innovation in winemaking, the setting of world class benchmarks, and objective measurement of progress and collegian support amongst all members.  The Guild also promotes development of disadvantaged individuals who form part of the broader community of the wine land areas.

The Cape Winemakers Guild is about ability, philosophy, achievement and an ongoing dedication to the production of quality wines.  Membership is by invitation only and follows a process of nomination and voting at the Guild’s AGM.

To be nominated - and to remain a member – winemakers must have been responsible for producing outstanding wines for a minimum of five years and should continue to do so.

Each year, the members of the Guild produce special wines in small quantities exclusively for their annual Auction.

All Auction wines undergo rigorous screening by the members of the Guild at a blind tasting and only wines showing technical excellence and maturation potential are selected for the auction, ensuring that each wine offered under the CWG Auction label is of exceptional quality. Bidders can buy CWG wines confident in the knowledge that they will be purchasing rare and unique wines selected for them by some of the country’s most experienced winemakers.
