Always in search of a greater challenge, Peters quiet reserve masks a passionate and competitive spirit, which he believes to be as essential as prime grapes in the making of great wines.
An instinct for farming and an environment of winemaking and wine talk determined his career from an early age. With winemaking qualifications from the University of Stellenbosch and from Geisenheim in the Rheingau, Peter traveled extensively, his fascination with Pinot Noir taking him repeatedly to Burgundy.
Peter has been closely involved with the production of Pinot Noir wines in the Walker Bay region for almost twenty-five years. For ten years, he joined forces with the historical Burgundian family of Paul Bouchard, planting his first Pinot Noir grapes in the Hemel en Aarde Valley in 1990. His experience and understanding of this capricious grape puts him at the forefront of Cape wine producers in this field.
Peter is one of the eight founder members of the Cape Winemakers Guild. He is also responsible for bringing the Italian cultivars Sangiovese and Nebbiolo into SA in 1989. Bouchard Finlaysons Galpin Peak Pinot Noir 2001 won the Classic Wine Trophy 2002.
Bouchard Finlayson has achieved the stellar position of achieving more than ten top awards for Pinot noir over the last ten years , including the prized accolade of being honoured with “Platter “ wine of the year for 2008 !

| Bouchard Finlayson Auction Reserve Pinot 2001 |
100% Pinot Noir - 2001 was a vintage when the weather gods had empathy with the farmers. A great summer with soft dry weather and excellent high quality fruit. The wine underwent fermentation and maceration for 21 days in closed vessels, followed by fifteen month barrel ageing in new Mercury barrels. Tasting note: The new wood compliment has given the wine great structure, with full, soft tannins to ensure many years of positive development. Aromatically scented with exciting whiffs of truffles and fruits of the forest. |
