Membership, by invitation, is extended to winemakers recognised for their high standards of craftsmanship who have been responsible for producing outstanding wines for a minimum of five years and who continue to do so.
Membership lies with the winemaker and not the property. A member moving to another winery will retain their membership of the Guild provided the above criteria are still met.
Invitation to join the CWG follows a process of nomination and voting at the Guilds annual general meeting.
Members nominating new candidates are required to present the nominees experience, achievements and winemaking philosophies to their fellow members prior to voting. Those winemakers meeting the above membership criteria and receiving a two-third majority vote at the AGM are invited to join the Guild.
The CWG meets regularly as a technical tasting group, providing its members with an opportunity to evaluate wines from around the world and to share their knowledge and ideas - ensuring that CWG members remain leaders in the art and science of winemaking.
