Grangehurst Auction Reserve 2001

49% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Pinotage, 14% Shiraz. A Cape blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinotage and Shiraz. The grapes were sourced from prime Helderberg (Stellenbosch) vineyards; fermented in open kuipe, punch downs (pigeage) for colour and tannin extraction; basket pressed; matured in French (77%) and American (23%) oak barrels (70% new) for 26 months. Tasting note: Deep, intense ruby colour. Rich raspberry & damson fruit aromas and flavours with hints of cedar & tobacco. A full-bodied wine with smooth, ripe tannins, lively acidity and a long finish. Recommended drinking – 2005 to 2010.
