Neil Ellis Auction Reserve Pinotage 2011

This wine has been produced using a selection from high altitude cooler climate Jonkershoek vineyards. The major winemaking objective is to craft a wine that is both complex while young, yet has the capacity to evolve and mature admirably. Cold soaked for 4 days prior to natural fermentation, using 25% whole bunches with no pressings included. The wine remained on gross lees for 9 months without SO2 in 50% new and 50% seasoned 500 litre French oak barrels. The total time in barrel was 16 months. Tasting Notes: Dark crimson, suggestively varietal, brooding fruits of sweet glac?ed fruit. Scents of dark cherry are released. Plush, well-rounded and balanced, sweet red-currant and cherry fruits. Texturally seamless, integrated oak and tannins conspire to impress.
