Rare Cape Winemakers Guild auction wines to wow international palates

International wine enthusiasts can experience exceptional South African wines of great diversity and creative flair, created exclusively for the 2016 Nedbank Cape Winemakers Guild Auction at tastings in five countries in Europe and Asia during September. The 52 singular wines showcased at these international tastings will go under the hammer in the Stellenbosch Winelands on Saturday, 1 October 2016.

Wine lovers, collectors and buyers in the UK, Netherlands, Denmark, Belgium and Hong Kong can look forward to tasting these individually crafted auction wines, including some exceptionally rare varieties and unusual blends. This year’s line-up for the 32nd CWG Auction comprises 32 red wines, 15 white wines, three Méthode Cap Classiques, a potstill brandy and a port. All the wines are crafted exclusively in small volumes for the auction by members of the Guild.

The Cape Winemakers Guild, an association of some of the finest winemakers in South Africa recognised for their high standard of craftsmanship, consists of 47 members who jointly represent the pinnacle of the country’s wine achievement.

“Our members have certainly pushed the envelope this year bringing even more diversity with exciting new styles, interesting varietal wines and unique blends to the auction. The shift to individual wines in smaller volumes and case lots underlines our singular vision to seek out exceptional parcels of vines, boost creativity and ultimately open up new frontiers in South African winemaking,” says CWG Chairman, Miles Mossop of Tokara.

The annual auction has a strong following of overseas wine enthusiasts who have the opportunities to taste the auction line-up at specially arranged international tastings. Wine enthusiasts in the UK can look forward to tastings in London at Berry Brothers & Rudd, High Timber and Galvin Brothers La Chapelle. Tastings will be held in Netherlands at Castle Engelenburg in Brummer andDe L’Europe in Amsterdam. Wine lovers in Denmark can attend tastings at the office of Tedeum Vin and Vesterhavshytten, while Belgians can attend two tastings at Rouseu Wijnen.
