Second Year Protégé
I am from Somerset West, where I completed my basic education. I studied a BSc Agric in Viticulture and Oenology at Stellenbosch University.
The more I learned about the profession and the lifestyle of winemaking, the more it appealed to me. I have always been interested in anything science-related and I imagined winemaking as a way of being able to do experiments at work! I also like that I’m involved in producing a product that people can enjoy.
This is my second year as a Protégé and I was mentored by Frans Smit at Spier in my first year. In 2022 I have been working at Warwick Wine Estate with JD Pretorius as my mentor. I am currently on a harvest and study tour in France. This is part of the second year Protégé curriculum and has been organised for me by the Cape Winemakers Guild.
I would like the future to look positive in terms of my career trajectory and relationships with people in to be industry. I would like to be independent and ambitious, leading a life that inspires others. I would like to continue to set goals and never stop learning and growing as an individual.
