Cape Winemakers Guild

Shanice du Preez

Third Year Protégé

Shanice du Preez is from Bothasig in Cape Town and graduated from Stellenbosch University with a BSc Viticulture and Oenology.  She spent the first year of her three-year internship at Kanonkop, under the mentorship of Abrie Beeslaar, and enjoyed being mentored by one of the Guild’s seasoned members, Charles Hopkins from De Grendel Wine Estate, in her second year.

During her second year as a protégé, she had the opportunity to travel to France for a harvest and study tour.

This is her third and final year as a Protégé and she is looking forward to working with Duncan Savage at his urban cellar in Cape Town, Savage Wines.

“My ideal job as a winemaker is to be as hands on as possible.  I want to work alongside my cellar team and create the most delicate and beautifully crafted wines. I want my team to be happy as I believe optimism leads to success and this will reflect in the wine being produced.” Shanice.
