Final Year Protégé
I am from south of Durban in KwaZulu-Natal. I studied winemaking as it combines the two things that I am passionate about – chemistry and nature.
In my first year, I was mentored by Frans Smit at Spier and in my second year I worked alongside Carl Schultz at Hartenberg Estate. On 1 December 2021, I moved to Mullineux & Leeu Family wines where I was mentored by Andrea Mullineux. By the time the Auction events take place, I will be in the USA doing a harvest.
This year my own wine that I made whilst on the Protégé Programme whilst being mentored by Carl Schultz at Hartenberg is up for sale at the 2022 Charity Auctions, including this dinner:
Thabile Cele – Uthingo Riesling 2021
Fermented in an old 225 litre French oak barrel and matured on its primary lees for 15 months before bottling.
Tasting Notes: Stone fruits, nectarines, peaches and apricot, lemon zest and petroleum on the nose. The palate follows through with lemon-lime zest and stone fruits. This wine is packed in a wooden box.
