“I see the Guild as an incredible community built around knowledge sharing, creativity and passion. Our industry is blessed with such talent, so to be included in this amazing group of wine people is both an honour and humbling, knowing that I am but a part of a greater team.”
Originally from the Strand, Wim studied BSc Agric (Viticulture and Oenology) at the University of Stellenbosch, completing his first internship at The Bergkelder in 2003. He went on to complete harvests in McLaren Vale, Sonoma Valley, Margaret River and the Rhône Valley, before taking up his first full-time position at Nederburg in Paarl.
Wim then spent ten years at Distell, including a two-year period completing a Master’s degree through the Erasmus Mundus programme in France, Italy and Spain. This was followed by four years as Head Winemaker at KWV, before finally joining Meerlust in 2020.
Outside the cellar, Wim has a deep love for the ocean and travel, and values spending quality time with family and friends. He can often be found in the kitchen, usually accompanied by a few glasses of wine.
