Hartenberg Loam Hill Merlot 2009
86% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Malbec This wine represents the best of the vintage from the Estate, modelled on the wines of right-bank Bordeaux. Hand – picked off a deep, red clay-loam soil. This single vineyard Merlot parcel represents the best of what we do. The balance of the vineyard finds its way to our Bordeaux Blend, The Mackenzie. The wine spent 20 months in 100% new, French oak barrels. Tasting note: Black-red in colour with a dark core. Intense aromas of mocha, plums, spices and other red and black fruits. The palate shows rich and opulent fruit, with supple, sweet flavours. Tannins are fine and dry, allowing further ageing. Drink 3-7 years from vintage.
