Luddite The Lone Stranger Mark II 2018

50% Mataro, 40% Shiraz, 10% Grenache Noir

All the components were fermented in small open bins. The Mourvèdre (Mataro) was destalked and fermented with two punch-downs per day. The Shiraz was destalked and 40% of the stalks were added back into the bin to add extra freshness. The Grenache portion was whole-bunch carbonic macerated for the first two thirds of fermentation after which we jumped in and foot crushed the remaining whole berries. All the components were matured in barrel for two years before being blended together and bottled.

Appearance: Bright red/purple.
Nose: Bright red fruit upfront, spicy, peppery with lingering dark fruit.
Palate: Spicy, dark fruit on entry, fresh mid-palate with vibrant tannins balancing the fruit.
