Neil Ellis Auction Reserve Pinotage 2011
Using a selection from high altitude cooler climate Jonkershoek vineyards, the major winemaking objective is to craft a wine that is both complex while young and yet has the capacity to evolve and mature admirably. Cold soaked for 4 days prior to natural fermentation using 25% whole bunches with no pressings included. The wine remained on gross lees for 9 months without SO2 in 50% new and 50% seasoned 500 litre French oak barrels. Total time in barrel, 16 months. Tasting Notes: Dark crimson, suggestively varietal. Brooding scents of sweet glazed fruit and dark cherry are released. Plush, well-rounded and balanced, sweet red-currant and cherry fruits. Texturally seamless, integrated oak and tannins conspire to impress. 40 cases were sold at the 2013 Auction.
