‘It’s a real honour to have been nominated by my peers and mentors to join the CWG.
I hope to continue making a positive contribution to the wine industry with renewed vigour and I greatly look forward to the ongoing learning opportunities that the CWG offers.’

Every new season brings new opportunities and challenges, and this ever-moving target is what excites him most about being a winemaker.
He believes that great wines have a sense of place and should, in addition, show the intricacies of the vintage in as beautiful a way as possible.
His wines are sold across the world, in 68 countries, and have received excellent reviews from some of the world’s leading wine critics and commentators.
When not in the cellar, he enjoys spending time with his family and friends, preferably cooking some good food with a glass of wine in hand, after a nice dive or fishing session.
100% Chardonnay
Wine of Origin Hemel-en-Aarde Valley
This is my maiden vintage for the CWG and the first from Hamilton Russell Vineyards since 2003. The wine is a combination of three barrels from one of my favourite vineyards. It is sourced from Dijon clone 96, planted at 140 metre elevation, 2.7 kilometres from the cold Atlantic Ocean, in iron-rich Bokkeveld shale soil. Fermentation took place in custom-made 300 litre French oak barrels and was followed by 11 months of élevage. Throughout the year, the wine was topped with lees to lend additional richness and texture.
Tasting Notes: Orchard blossoms, white pear and yellow citrus take center stage, with hints of flinty reduction, adding complexity. The palate has a subtle richness and a classic, long, refreshingly saline finish.
Ready for drinking 3 to 5 years after vintage.
