Pelokazi Nomfembe
First Year Protégé
Pelokazi Nomfembe is from a small town in the Eastern Cape called Qumbu and has a diploma in Viticulture and Oenology from Elsenburg College. She is in her first year of the Protégé Programme and is being mentored by Abrie Beeslaar at Kanonkop Wine Estate.
Pelokazi faced many challenges during the course of her studies but never gave up. In 2023 she received a year-long internship at Boschendal Wine Estate and finished her studies whilst being an intern.
As a winemaker, her goal is to inspire young people that want to be in the wine industry. For Pelokazi, participating in the Protégé Programme represents an opportunity to shatter stereotypes and improve her professional skills. “In 10 years’ time, I hope to have my own brand to promote in South Africa and abroad.”
